Honestly, whatever you're wearing at the time should work for you until Hell. Then you might want to dip a little into the AH. But a lot of items that drop in A1 Inferno (the most farmed Act!) ranges from 51-63. So you'll find plenty of people farming and picking up gear relevant for your toon in need of lewts.

Also, once you start nearing hell, look for things with reduced level requirement. That way you can find lvl 60+ gear which you can wear at lvl 45-50
