You're in charge of a party of adventurers clamoring to win a year without taxes in a tournament spanning the entire kingdom of Kameloot. As you might expect, the lust for fame and fortune feature prominently in your heroes throughout the story's progression.

While the classic RPG mechanics are a familiar sight, there are a few real-time twists on the turn-based combat that keeps players on their toes.  The cardboard cutout art style is definitive and unique - the big bobble-heads, as goofy as they are, really grow on you. Between weapons, armor, equipment, talent, and hero selection, the amount of customization is absolutely great. All in all, Battleloot Adventures provides a fine mix of old mechanics and new twists; lighthearted art style and deep gameplay

If you're tired of waiting for Infinity Blade: Dungeons to come out and have already played the snot out of Dungeon Hunter 3, I've got a great fantasy hack-and-slash game for you. ORC: Vengeance will be released soon by Big Cave Games, a new developer with some extensive experience from the PC and console gaming world. ORC: Vengeance features gesture-based combat, highly polished graphics, a novel equipment upgrade system and a unique angle on the usual goody-two-shoes fantasy plotline.

DancePad grooved on over to the iPad last week, introducing a new twist on the usual rhythm game. The current breed of rhythm games on iOS tend to revolve around instrument simulation, but this game puts your fingertips on the dance floor, where you have to master a whole swathe of techniques, including slides, holds, and perfectly-timed taps. The closest thing you might have seen to DancePad is a DanceDance Revolution S+, and even that classic pales in comparison. As it turns out, finger-dancing is actually A Thing, so this game is an homage to those who are really into it and a fine introduction for those that know nothing about it.

Dead Trigger lurched its way into the App Store the other day, boasting run-and-gun zombie apocalypse action on your iPhone and iPad. The first person shooter is unabashedly cheesy, chock-full of snappy one-liners after recorpsifying the odd shambler, and over-the-top non-player characters that prod the plot forward. The graphics are the real showstopper though - you will be hard-pressed to find more disgusting walking dead anywhere else on a phone or tablet.

At its core, Darkside is a visually-polished, high-octane arcade shooter. The lighting effects are particularly great, and though the 3D gameplay takes awhile to get used to, it's a nice change to standard top-down dual-stick games. The free version offers exceptionally high-quality action, even if it's only through the arcade mode. Overall, Darkside is a gorgeous and thrilling sci-fi ride - well worth a buck if you're prone to putting a lot of time action games, and a great free option if you're just looking for a casual (and very pretty) fling.
