With the addon Mists of Pandaria a lot of hope has risen. The new stat PvP Power increases damage and healing done to players. The idea behind this is to make sure that PvP gear is better
for PvP than PvE gear, while also work as solid PvE starting gear. But there is one problem.
PvP weapons do not have PvP Power on them. As PvP gear has a lower ilvl than PvE gear upgraded normal mode weapons have a higher ilvl than PvP Tier 2 weapons. Let's take a closer look at the numbers.
PvP Gear
T1 weapons: ilvl489
T2 weapons: ilvl502
Mogu’shan Vaults
Normal mode: ilvl489
Hard mode: ilvl502
Heart of Fear & Terrace of Endless Springs
Normal mode: ilvl496
Normal mode with upgrades: 503
Hard mode: ilvl509
Hardmode with Upgrades: ilvl 516
Comparision of PvP and PvE weapons in detail
Not all of the numbers are perfectly clear at the moment, for example I could not find upgraded versions of the Mogu'shan Vaults loot. The upgrades are done with Valor points and the latest information I found on MMO Champion suggests that this will cost 300 Valor points for one of three possible upgrades. This information may be outdated, but the ilvls written above can be seen on wowhead and wowdb.
The game starts with the Mogu'Shan Vault raid and the Heart of Fear as well as Terrace of Endless Springs will be added approximately one month later. Source
Which means four weeks into the season normal mode gear will be on par with T2 pvp weapons, that most players will barely have at that time. It probably will not take too long before a lot of players get their hands on the hardmode ilvl509 pve weapons and upgrade them to ilvl516, which is 14 ilvl and one socket better than the PvP elite ones. In other words - if you plan to play pvp competetively it's probably a good idea to look for a raid that clears hardmodes in a reasonable amount of time.
This problem could easily be solved if Blizzard would decide to put PvP Power on weapons. Of course healing is too high in pvp at the moment and needs some adjustment, but without PvP Power on weapons we will be forced to raid. Most really good weapons drop from the end bosses and these will take more time and wipes than Morchok or Yor'Shaj for sure, especially before the nerfs.
As Blizzard did not respond to this issues for many weeks now, I think it is time to get some attention towards it. Maybe I am wrong, so let me know, what you think.
