We're Alive!

Hey gamers!

So it's been awhile since I've made a post and I apologize for that. Need to get this to be a monthly thing, working on that! So let's go over what's happened, what's going on now, and what's next!

What's Happened

  • Non-Anook stuff slowed development a bit, that's to be expected during the holidays!
  • We had some representation at the PAX South convention in San Antonio, TX and got to hang out with some users and devs (for way too short of a time)!
  • We've made some background improvements to the site.

What's Going On Now

  • Development is getting back up to full speed after some rather freakish technical problems.
  • We're clearing out inactive game moderators who have become inactive or unable to keep helping out.
  • I'm working on getting more game developer interaction on game pages.
  • We're also working on the worst kept secret of Anook: Shirts!

What's Next

  • More features! More cool things!
  • Building up moderators on more games and more moderators on games that need them.
  • More ways to support our users, more ways for our users to support us, and maybe ways for our users to support one another.
  • Community events!

Speaking of community events, I would like to create some kind of 'Anook Day' to celebrate the video game community, gamers, devs, and content creators. This is a chance for everyone to have a chance to hopefully meet new gamers, new streamers, YouTubers, bloggers, whatever! I know we'll have to start small but I want this to become the monthly event everyone looks forward to! :D

Well, that's all I've got for now. Please feel free to give us your feedback in the comments or a PM!

Thanksgiving 2014

While Anook is an international site that originated in Germany, the Community Manager (that's me!) is from the US, so I'm going to write up a little Thanksgiving post. :D

I'm truly thankful for all the users of this site, even you lurkers and trolls. When I started working with Anook as wee little outreach guy, I thought it was just going to be an internship thing while I was unemployed. Now I'm the Community Manager for the greatest social site for gamers ever; I have to balance it with a dayjob to pay the bills for now, but that's totally worth it. However, I can't have any of this enjoyment without you guys actually here to make this site a thing.

I've said it before and I'll undoubtedly say it again, but Anook is just a framework, a website, it's you guys who make it a community. A special thank-you to our community of creators, be it YouTube, streamers, bloggers, or even guild communities! There's so much awesomeness on this site on a daily basis, I've had to stop trying to watch it all, and that's just the stuff on my feed!

I thank you all for your support. I'll be doing a stream or two this weekend to hang out with you all, @Knorti convinced me to play Civ:BE but I might also do some Heroes of the Storm since I just got the key for that yesterday, but the focus of the stream is to hear from you guys.

State of the Site - November 2014

Hey gamers!

For those of you who don't know, I'm Lonrem, Anook's Community Lead. I'm the guy who handles your user reports, runs the moderators, and the Twitter feed. While I frequently answer questions on an individual level when I see them or I'm asked directly, it's usually to a fairly small audience and sometimes limited to 140 characters at a time! :) As such, I wanted to create a place where I can speak and answer questions as they come up. This is MY blog, and I may feature content that I personally like, or represents positive aspects of the gaming community. I've turned over the Community Spotlight nook to you all as users! If you want to feature a article, podcast, or video about the Anook Community, just send me a PM and we'll discuss it and over time I'll hopefully have enough regular writers that it can run itself. :D

To the point of my post! Anook continues to grow and that's a good thing, but it also means we need more help to grow the site, to moderate it, to promote awesome content, and maybe even organize some cool events! In short, we're looking for staff members. We're looking for dedicated and reliable gamers who want to be apart of Anook and dive into the deep end. However, we are still in beta, so there's no revenue being generated, so all positions are unpaid. With that in mind, we're not asking people to give 60 hours a week to Anook, even just a couple minutes a day can make a world of difference, but we need that reliability and a bit of professionalism. I guarantee that no matter your talents, we can use your help!

I'm going to host a little Teamspeak chat with anybody interested to talk about ideas and ways you can help, even if you don't want to join in as dedicated staff. I'll also be available to answer any questions or field any suggestions for the site you might have. I attempted this previously while also streaming Payday 2... turns out I can't concentrate on a co-op shooter and talk to the community at the same time.

If you are interested in helping out, do me a favor and leave a comment with what times might work best for a big group chat, I'll try to pick some time that's best for as many as possible, might do two if need be.

Happy Gaming,

Anook Community Lead
