Sup gamers, it's GamerAssassin here to give you a daily dose of all things gaming. But today I give you a bitter pill to swallow, folks. 'Irrational Games', creators of the Bioshock series, are closing their doors. Yes, you heard correctly, the creators of the now infamous Bioshock series are shutting down. Ken Levine announced this on Irrational Games' homepage.
"I am winding down Irrational Games as you know it, I'll be starting a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two. That is going to mean parting ways with all but about fifteen members of the Irrational team. There's no great way to lay people off, and our first concern is to make sure that the people who are leaving have as much support as we can give them during this transition." Said Levine. "While I'm deeply proud of what we've accomplished together, my passion has turned to making a different kind of game than we've done before. To meet the challenge ahead, I need to refocus my energy on a smaller team with a flatter structure and a more direct relationship with gamers."
The fifteen who will remain are being taken into Irrational's parent company, Take Two, and will be resigned. As for the rest of the staff, they'll all be laid off and Take Two will help them find new jobs. But if you're as selfish as I was immediately after the shock of this set in, fear not, for 2K games will take the reins of the Bioshock series from here on out.
Levine stated that his new role will be "narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly re-playable."
So there ya have it folks! Irrational game's is shutting it's doors and laying off basically everyone. Feel free to leave you're no doubt shocked and or angry thoughts below! I'm GamerAssassin for the news, and remember, when it comes to the news: Nothing is true, everything is permitted. Peace out!
