The full champion reveal of Yasuo, the Unforgiven

"Yasuo dashes to solemn victory, harnessing the raw power of the wind to elevate his unmatched elemental swordsmanship. A former member of an Ionian martial school and the only student to have mastered a legendary wind technique, Yasuo now lives a tempestuous life, drifting through Runeterra as he hunts the true killer of the Ionian elder he was sworn to protect.

Passive: Way of the Wanderer

  • Intent: Yasuo's critical strike chance is doubled.
  • Resolve:Yasuo gains Flow as he moves – the faster he moves, the faster his Flow meter fills. When full, Yasuo activates a brief shield after taking damage from enemy champions or monsters.

Q: Steel Tempest Yasuo thrusts forward with his sword, damaging all enemies in a line. Successfully landing Steel Tempest grants Yasuo Gathering Storm stacks for a short period. The third stack of Gathering Storm causes Steel Tempest to send out a whirlwind that travels in a line and sends all enemies caught Airborne. If Yasuo casts Steel Tempest during Sweeping Blade, the ability strikes all enemies immediately around him.

W: Wind Wall

  • Passive: Dashing replenishes Yasuo's Flow faster.
  • Active: Yasuo creates a wall of wind that slowly drifts forward for a few seconds. The wall blocks all enemy projectiles.

E: Sweeping Blade

Yasuo dashes a fixed distance through an enemy, dealing damage and marking them briefly. If Yasuo uses Sweeping Blade multiple times in succession, the ability deals extra damage up to a cap. Yasuo cannot use Sweeping Blade on an enemy that's already been marked.

R: Last Breath Yasuo teleports to a nearby Airborne enemy champion, briefly suspending them and all surrounding Airborne enemies mid-air as he damages them. Once he lands, Yasuo gains significant armor penetration against his enemy's bonus armor for an extended period of time.

Yasuo's a sustained damage fighter with high mobility, strong utility and damage output that ramps up the longer he survives in combat. The tradeoff here comes in the form of low damage during Yasuo's early game.

Mid lane

Yasuo's early game fragility makes him a champion best suited for the shortest lane on Summoner's Rift: mid. He farms safest here, concentrating on building up his experience and gold as he itemizes his way to domination. But even though Yasuo is at his weakest in the early game, his strength and mobility still has the potential to surprise his enemies. Yasuo can use Steel Tempest to last-hit from a relatively safe distance, and if he needs to secure backline minion gold, quick consecutive casts of Sweeping Blade send him dashing to and from, with Way of the Wanderer's shield absorbing some of the inevitable incoming damage. Yasuo can use Sweeping Blade as a handy escape during gank attempts, too: if he's caught between the enemy melee and caster minions, using the ability to dash back towards his own turret should help dissuade all but the most stubborn of junglers from pursuing.

And when the winds change direction, careful timing turns Yasuo into a deadly accomplice in friendly gank attempts. Stacking Steel Tempest properly and using Gathering Storm to toss his enemy skywards means initiation from the jungle is a relatively simple matter, and once the enemy's caught, Yasuo uses Sweeping Blade to dash in and get to work. Way of the Wanderer's critical strike boost help Yasuo's attacks sting, while if he's unlocked Last Breath, the additional damage and crowd control makes kills all the more likely.

A melee monster with damage that increases the longer teamfights last, Yasuo's first priority is to stack Gathering Storm while weathering the enemy team's initial onslaught. This is where Wind Wall comes into its own. Carefully positioning the wall between the enemy front and back lines allows Yasuo to engage on the less threatening tanks and bruisers, generating Gathering Storm stacks with liberal use of Steel Tempest. Once the third cast is ready, Yasuo repeatedly uses Sweeping Blade to rush through the entire enemy line and position himself beside or behind the enemy squishies. A final Steel Tempest casts them skyward, opening up Last Breath, a lethal ability for anyone caught in the whirlwind. Enemies that manage to juke away from Yasuo's whirlwind aren't necessarily safe from Last Breath: any knock-up abilities can be chained with the Yasuo's ult, making him hugely synergistic with champions like Cho'Gath, Malphite and Zyra. Once he's landed, Yasuo's huge bonus armor penetration buff, combined with the critical strike bonus from Way of the Wanderer, makes short work of even the tankiest of tanks.

The story of a sword is inked in blood.
Yasuo is a man of resolve, an agile swordsman who wields the wind itself to cut down his foes. But this once proud warrior has been disgraced by a false accusation and forced into a desperate fight for survival. With the world turned against him, he will do everything in his power to bring the guilty to justice and restore his honor.

Once a brilliant pupil at a renowned Ionian sword school, Yasuo was the only student in a generation to master the legendary wind technique. Many believed he was destined to become a great hero. However, his fate was changed forever when Noxus invaded. Yasuo was charged with guarding an Ionian Elder, but, foolishly believing his blade alone could make the difference, left his post to join the fray. By the time he returned, the Elder had been slain.

Disgraced, Yasuo willingly turned himself in, prepared to pay for his failure with his life. He was shocked, however, to find himself accused not just of dereliction, but of the murder itself. Though confused and racked with guilt, he knew the assassin would go unpunished if he did not act. Yasuo raised his sword against the school and fought his way free, knowing his treason would turn all of Ionia against him. Now truly alone for the first time in his life, he set out to find the Elder's real killer.

Yasuo spent the next several years wandering the land, seeking any clue that might lead him to the murderer. All the while, he was relentlessly hunted by his former allies, continually forced to fight or die. His mission drove him ever forward, until he was tracked down by the one foe he dreaded most – his own brother, Yone.

Bound by a common code of honor, the two warriors bowed and drew their swords. Silently they circled one another under the moonlight. When they finally charged forward, Yone was no match for Yasuo; with a single flash of steel he cut his brother down. Yasuo dropped his weapon and rushed to Yone's side.

Overcome with emotion, he demanded to know how his own kin could think him guilty. Yone spoke: “The Elder was killed by a wind technique. Who else could it be?” Understanding swept over Yasuo as he suddenly realized why he had been accused. He professed his innocence once more and begged his brother's forgiveness. Tears streamed down Yasuo's face as his brother passed in his arms.

Yasuo buried Yone under the rising sun, but could take no time to mourn. Others would be after him before long. His brother's revelation had given Yasuo newfound purpose; he now had the clue that would lead to the true killer. Swearing an oath, he gathered his belongings and, with one last look at Yone's grave, set out with the wind at his back."

The new beta is live

Welcome to the new beta

It’s been over three years since we launched the original League of Legends website, so we thought it was about time for an upgrade. A lot’s changed since then – both on the web and on the Fields of Justice – so we wanted to build a new site capable of supporting the wider range of content we’re releasing these days. The site’s now in beta, and we’re eager to hear your thoughts on the new look and feel. You’ll find some of the major updates outlined below.

Why the new look?

League of Legends is always evolving and changing, but this is the first major renovation we’ve made since the beginning of Season One. The old website was had a few quirks that made it tough to find content, so we wanted more streamlined navigation that pushed community interaction. Here’s what you can expect from some of the more major changes.

Streamlined navigation

On light news days, between three and five League of Legends newsposts hit the website, which can make it really hard to locate anything after it falls off the front page. Since a huge portion of you view the news each day (all with different interests) we want to make sure you’re finding the content you want to view. For this reason, we switched to a clearer, visual way to access news, along with new methods for finding older articles.

Focused design

The old site’s nav had a ton of stuff competing to grab your attention, which made it pretty hard to spot what you were looking for. In the new layout we cleaned up the nav to prioritize news, game info and community content. Articles also came in all different shapes, sizes and formats, many of which didn’t really support their content. The new site is designed to feature articles backed up by vibrant art and videos.

Community content

The community portal’s a prime example of something that was pretty hard to find in the old design. Since players like you are the lifeblood of League of Legends, we’d like the new site to give you even more ways to interact with one another. The community’s now front and center – all content and programs are on the main nav. Whether you want to check out the awesome player-made stuff, or participate in some cool community activities, we hope you’ll find it easier to connect with your fellow summoners.

We're just getting started!

We know big changes like this can be jarring at first, but we think you’ll find the new site supports a wide variety of new experiences and content types. Also, it’s still beta – there are more improvements coming before release! Your feedback’s an important part of getting everything shipshape and ready for launch, so be sure to report bugs, suggest new features and comment on the design.

League of Legends hit a new milestone, now regularly exceeding five million peak concurrent players globally. That’s a few more than we reported back in October. We're humbled by the support of players and now more than ever feel the weight of those expectations. Good luck, have fun, and please have mercy on our servers.

Lissandra Appearing in "Recommended Items"

Yesterday in air patch a new RecommendindItem.swf appeared. In this "Lissandra" appeared in the files. However this would not be the first time something like this would happen. What is more interesting, is that in this patch that is just now hitting the PBE, She is -still- in the files, along with another file added to her name. Though this could still be an error. it seems even less like it.

Champion & Skin Sale: Pain Management

  • Champions, when will you ever learn? Step into my office. Nurse Akali here to make those boo boos feel all better. 487 RP

  • Thunder Lord Volibear came in complaining of a sprained ankle and tension headaches. Rampaging across Summoner's Rift on all fours can't be good for an armored bear's back. I'm prescribing two of the largest acetaminophens I can find. 487 RP

  • Complaining of nausea and lack of balance, Temple Jax should get on a real diet before jumping around like a madman. Too many red potions and energy drinks will take its toll, you know, and that's before the kidney stones kick in. Rest up for a match or two and things should settle. 487 RP

  • Shyvana's suffering from some minor fractures and bruises after she streaked through the sky in dragon form and crashed headfirst into a wall. Think before you gank and you won't be in so much pain! 487 RP

  • Oh, look who finally came down with a case of scurvy! Gangplank , you can't skimp on the oranges if you expect to stay healthy on the battlefield. Take these tablets and you'll be right as rain. 395 RP

  • LeBlanc , you may be a conniving trickster who eludes most inspections, but you still can't hide from my x-ray machine. You'll fork over gold for every broken bone I find and fix. 395 RP

These champions may be battered and bruised, but they'll still perform. Grab them half off while they're resting in my infirmary from March 5 to March 8 . After that, I'm discharging them immediately!

Champion & Skin Sale: Tender is the Twilight

Tantalizing tones play from somewhere off in the distance as dancers twirl and spin, swaying to the sultry song. A tall figure stands against the wall, his arms clasped and his face taut.

  • Twisted Fate grimaces, testing his sore ankle by toeing the edge of a table. He seems satisfied and turns, tramping towards the rooms in back of the tavern. 292 RP

  • Talon twists his head to follow the cardsharp’s travel, then chuckles. A twinkle in his eye suggests the tango is a less-trying dance than that of twin blades. 487 RP

  • Trundle watches the dancers, truculent. His knuckles turn white, torturing the handle of his truncheon. 440 RP

  • Tundra Fizz tries to join the crowd, but his tango is truncated when he sweats through the thick layers of his tunic and he trips across the floor. 487 RP

  • Tango Evelynn traipses and vanishes throughout the twisting crowd, her eyes unfazed by the promise of trinkets and trifles offered by trembling, twitching suitors. 487 RP

  • Tango Twisted Fate returns triumphant with his tailored coattails trailing. Every eye takes note as he takes center stage; the other dancers feel a wave of awe, setting their senses tingling. 487 RP

They’ll continue on, giving you time from March 1 to March 4 to trap them. Don’t toy with them though, for the dancers will tumble away into the night carried by the trembling touch of the tango.

Patch 3.03 Delayed by 24 hours

I reported yesterday that the patch would be going live on the 28th. However Riot has pushed this back.

Update: The update has been delayed 24 hours. On 03/01/13, starting at 00:30 PST, ranked queues will be disabled in preparation for patch 3.03. At 02:00 PST. Sorry for the delay.

LCS Super Week Schedule Changes

Riot have decided to shift the EU schedule around for the coming week:

This was a very good call. Previously the buffer between the EU Super Week Friday and the four NA games that are set to take place after was very small. The EU LCS has quite often run a little behind schedule and with twelve games in one day there was a real possibility of significant delays to the start of the NA LCS. Further, it also meant that for those who wanted to watch the whole show that they would have had to spend 16+ hours straight glued to their monitors. This change means that twelve games is the most that will get shown on one day (twelve for NA, starting later today, and then eight EU + four NA on Friday).

We’re all pretty excited for Super Week over here at NoL, you can check out Riot’s hype video below.

Server Maintenance: Patch 3.03

Server Maintenance: Patch 3.03

Looks like we will be seeing a patch hit Thursday. I will post the official notes as soon as they are posted.
I will let you know as soon as a new patch his their download servers. At this time there are two "unused" patches on the live server that do not have any of the PBE Changes. Chances are they will be uploading a new one soon.

On 02/28/13, starting at 00:30 PST, ranked queues will be disabled in preparation for patch 3.03. At 02:00 PST, the servers will be shut down and all games currently in progress will end in a draw and stats will not be recorded. We estimate the battlegrounds will be unavailable for 6 hours.

More Woes for GGU - Well played

GGU just announced that Shiphtur, after being stopped at the border into the US earlier this week, would need to wait a further three weeks to get his work permit in order. This is quite a blow to GGU who have had to play many games without their full roster and had hoped to be at full strength from now on. While Fat, their main sub, has been doing a decent job of filling in, all the practice they have done with Shiphtur is currently going to waste. Why the work permit wasn’t sorted out properly beforehand they didn’t say. Hopefully his trip through the land of red tape will be swift and as painless as possible.

League having this T-shirt contest for all you Artist :D Champs IRL: J!NX T-Shirt Design Contest

Our friends at J!NX are kicking off a T-shirt design contest for new League of Legends swag, and they're looking for your help.

Folks, it's time to get creative. What do our favorite champions do when they aren't battling on the Fields? We're pretty sure we all know what Brolaf does on his weekends, and odds are Warwick spends his Saturdays working on his grandma cosplay. But what does a Gem Knight do off the clock? Does he shine bright like a diamond? Watch the Valoran Grammy's?

Your answer to these burning questions could win you Legendary skins and other swag including the T-shirt you designed!

Also, if you make an amazing piece of art that doesn't fit our theme, not only will we treasure it forever, we will disqualify it from the contest! So, don't do that. To guide your way, check out these nifty submission requirements.

Don't be a newb: Use the Submission Kit
No hax0rz: Your submission must be 100% your own. No existing game assets, screenshots, logos, icons, photo sampling, etc are allowed
Carry hard: Your design must be easily identified as a League of Legends design, and display the theme of champions and what they do outside of the rift
Earn your Honor: Designs must be appropriate for an audience of all ages, and follow the Summoner's Code
Seriously: It's worth saying twice. Crude and controversial content will be disqualified
Fill all your slots: Two images must be submitted: a 150x150 px thumbnail of your design, and a main display image which should be exactly 900 pixels wide and 533 pixels tall
Last one: The main image submission may be in JPG, GIF, and PNG format.

Qualifying Designs

Once the deadline to entry has passed, submissions will be screened by us. Designs given the stamp of awesome will be posted on the League of Legends T-shirt Design Contest page for a public voting round at a later date. Again, any submission that doesn't follow the rules for qualification will never ever, ever make it to voting.

As always, the legal team has more fleshed out rules on the official blathering page.
