A question for you Elder Scrolls lore nerds: Were the Akavari kung-fu masters?

I ask this because the Dragonknights in ESO (Who learnt their abilities from the Akaviri) show many stances used in Kung-Fu.

1. Power Lash

This is the move you execute when performing a flame lash on an off-balanced target. You spin around in the air with your whip made of fire. This move is extremely close to one used by Shaolin Kung-Fu

2. Obsidian Shield

A stubborn, powerful stance where you slam the ground with your legs wide apart. This looks just like the Horse Stance from the style known as Hung Gar.

Were they kung-fu masters, or is this all just a coincidence?

If you're into anime, it might also remind you of Avatar the last airbender. Hung Gar was used by the Earth Benders, which the earthern heart skill line appears to be based on (throwing rocks, rock shields, etc), and Fire bending based on Shaolin Kung-Fu is similar to ardent flame (they could breathe fire, execute flame whips, surround themselves in fire).

Or maybe I'm just bored and reading too much into it.

I could see that., the Akaviri motif has an Asian twist to it. There's aspects of Kung-Fu in places like the Two-Moons Dance Temple on Khenarthi's Roost.

@Daraugh you're right. It looks like one of those Samurai outfits almost. Would explain the akaviri katanas also..

Definitely inspired by them, I would say. I just picked up the chest motif and the light robe has a kimono flavor to it, I love it. I just had a thought, the animation for Obsidian Shield is reminiscent of the stomp a sumo wrestler does at the start of a match.

It does look really cool. Currently saving up to buy all the motif pages - though will take a while if I keep spending my AP on undaunted sets -.-

Lol yeah it does look like the sumo slam thing. It really reminded me of the horse stance used in Hung Gar, which looks like this: imgur.com/a/mUgVW

Definitely inspired, like all ES a bit of mix and match. If you read the duel between Price Julek and the Akaviri potentate's son in The Last Year of the First Era (scene '14 Morning Star') the descriptions of the fighting style are very clear – imperial-library.info/content/2920-last-year-first-era

Ummm... are we sure they're fighting? Or is the story a euphemism for fighting? "The Prince's longblade slashed...[snip] It a moment, it was over. Savirien-Chorak was prostate in the dust with the Prince's longsword at his throat."

Good point... ZoS could be missing a trick by not monetising slash-fic lore books in the new loot crates :)
