Name and/or nickname: Aarron (Ashen)

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Location and/or timezone: Scotland, GMT timezone

Work / Study: Going back to university in September to do my Master's.

Hobbies except gaming: Reading, socialisation with friends, helping out / playing with my parent's foster kids. Going to be trying my hand at writing soon once I can come up with some ideas.

Game you are applying for: World of Warcraft

YOU, as a person

As per the Churchillian quote, we'll keep it short and (hopefully) attention-grabbing!

I'm a Scottish dwarf living in the South-west of the country and, having recently been made redundant, am spending my days looking for work, helping out with my parent's foster kids (which most of the time is not a chore), reading, gaming or trying to improve my overall fitness. Heading back to university in September to complete an Msc in Information & Library Studies (BA was in History / Social Sciences). I've recently returned to Warcraft. I've got a long history with the game with several intermittent breaks, having first played in Vanilla (although I never reached 60) and then returning to the game in WoTLK. Since then I've been playing on and off pretty much ever since. Played the entirety of Cataclysm, a large portion of MoP (although not the start as GW2 had just released if I'm remembering correctly) and not a particularly large amount of WoD. Started playing in Legion but after raiding Emerald Nightmare I was distracted by the release of Black Desert Online.

I've just transferred back to Argent Dawn (my favourite server) after a stint on Earthen Ring with my old (now dead) guild. An old guild member, Droxx, is playing here and recommended you guys to me. Looking forward to getting to know you all and hopefully finding another online 'home' if accepted.

Your favorite color: Red. Because everyone knows da red wunz go fasta'.

Your favorite book or magazine: Jeez. That's a tough one. I've got a soft spot for fantasy and sci-fi. Let's say Dune, or anything written by David Gemmell.

Your favorite movie or TV-Show: Easy one. HBO's Rome. Rest in peace, buddy. You deserved more than two seasons.

Your favorite song or band: You ever get those moments where someone asks you what your favourite band is and you just completely blank out? That's happening right now. So let's say Fleetwood Mac, because it's what I happen to be listening to at the moment.

Your favorite animal: I really like pot-bellied pigs, I don't know why...

YOU, as a gamer

The games you currently play: World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, Divinity: Original Sin.

The games you will play in the future: If I could pierce the veil of the future I would be a rich man indeed! ;)

Your best memory in game: Any moment when you finally get a boss down after unholy amounts of wiping. Fandral Staghelm in Firelands comes to mind.

Your more shameful moment in game: I once got kicked out a PUG that I was doing with my brother for 5k DPS as a Warlock in Cataclysm... I don't play Warlock anymore.

What type of gamer are you? (social/hardcore/explorer/achiever?): Social with an unfortunate occasional addiction to achievement hunting. I wouldn't classify myself as hardcore, but I do like to take progression seriously when I'm raiding. Although not to the point of being a bore, I enjoy a good banter. Any guild that can joke with each other is a good guild in my opinion.

How did you hear about us? My friend Droxx plays in Whitestar and demanded I sell my soul to yo- err, I mean submit an application to you lovely people.

Why do you want to join Whitestar? I'm enjoying WoW again on a pretty casual basis and I'm looking for a group of people I can hopefully form friendships with. I think MMO's are only truly enjoyable when you have a good group of people to play them with. At least long-term.

Do you already know anyone in Whitestar? See above. :)

If you apply for World of Warcraft

What is your ingame character name (main): Ashbrandr

What is your class and role (main): Fury Warrior

What is your current item level: 864

Do you have any significant alts: Not at the moment, I'll be levelling something up on AD though. Most of my characters are still on Earthen Ring and its costly to move them all, so for now I've only moved the Warrior.

Do you have any problems being on, and participating in, voicechat during raids: Not at all.

What is your favorite activity ingame and why: Probably 5-mans and solo'ing old-content. I've got a soft spot for old raids, and as for 5-mans, well I just find those the most fun and personal experience. Raids are fun as well but aren't quite as intimate. Also I've not raided in a while so the prospect is somewhat daunting.

Do you want to raid or are you applying for a social spot: I would say ostensibly a social spot, however I would like to try my hand at raiding again if you guys are okay with a somewhat undergeared player that will have to learn from scratch. I watch the Youtube videos for my class, and for raids etc. but the truth is that I predominantly learn a raid from actually experiencing it.

What do you, as a player, want from Whitestar: A close-knit group of people that are able to make new players feel welcome as well as a guild that doesn't take itself too seriously. From what I've read so far you seem to be a group with pleasant stated values, which goes a long way. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Greetings Ash and welcome! It's good to see more fresh me-- recruits popping up, especially ones that know Droxx :D I hereby accept your soul as a down payment and look forward to finally throwing a warrior person towards an angry raid boss again since we're sadly lacking some berserking types haha.

As always this thread will be open 72 hours for the officers to discuss and for peoples to ask questions if they feel like it. Good luck!

Oh and my question(s) to you: what achievement are you most 'proud' of and what is your favourite 5-man dungeon in the game so far!

Hey Savian, thank you! As a warrior person with a penchant for berserking, I feel that the eternal loss of my soul is an acceptable trade if I get to smash things with my swords.

Sounds good, hoping to hear from the others then.

Your question is a tough one, I know that Cataclysm typically isn't seen as one of the better expansions but I've got a soft spot for the 5-mans which were pretty difficult at the start of the expansion. I've got a particular love for Grim Batol. The sort of love that can only be forged through trial, tribulation and the sworn oaths that you will forever hate this content only to do a complete 180 once you actually beat it. We spent approximately 4 hours wiping on that dungeon before we finally managed to clear it (and getting the guild the achievement for its completion as a nice bonus!). For a dungeon that's a pretty long length of time! Of course it didn't help that I was playing my Warlock at the time...

Aside from that I must admit to needing to throw off the nostalgia goggles; the current dungeons in Legion are very, very good. My favourite aesthetically is probably Neltharion's Lair. Mechanically perhaps Hall of Valor or Cathedral of Eternal Night, for Odyn and Thrashbite respectively, which are just fun fights. Not done the new Karazhan yet, will get around to it eventually! I've not managed to complete a particularly high Mythic dungeon level, I think the highest I got was 6 or 7 or something along those lines in the Emerald Nightmare era of Legion, so perhaps I can throw myself into those as well at some point.

Edit: Ooops. Came back because I had a feeling I'd forgotten something and lo' and behold, I completely skipped over the achievements part of your question. I'd have to say the ones I'm most proud of would be [Avast Ye, Admiral!] because that Bloodsail grind was the WORST. as well as obtaining the Defender of a Shattered World achievement back in Cataclysm. Not particularly prestigious, I know, but that last one stands out as it was my goal at the time (my guild was only raiding Normal-mode).

Just wanted to say I very much enjoyed reading your application and wish you the best of luck for the recruitment !!

As an added note: I share your enjoyment for those though (at start) dungeons of Cata and also, if you haven't tried the new Kara yet you sure are in for a trip (pun very intended), ahah :)

Have fun and hopefully see you soon in green text ;)

Hi Trellisaze, a pleasure.

I'm glad you enjoyed reading through it, at least it wasn't a slog! Thanks for the best wishes, and yeah I've got a feeling Karazhan may be quite tough. :D

All the best.
